(1807-1874) Корнелл, Эзра
Бизнесмен, основатель Корнеллского университета [Cornell University]. Начинал как строитель телефонных линий, в частности, первой междугородней телефонной линии Вашингтон-Балтимор. В 1855 возглавил объединение телеграфных компаний в единую "Вестерн юнион телеграф" [Western Union]. В течение 15 лет был ее директором и основным пайщиком. В 60-х годах начал заниматься филантропической деятельностью. Создал образцовую ферму возле г. Итаки и основал публичную библиотеку. В 1865, воспользовавшись принятием закона Моррилла [Morrill Act], создал частный университет в Итаке - ныне известный как Корнеллский университет
